Blog launched, fixed Gender Selection

July 30th, 2009

We’ve relaunched our blog. It has been down for a few years, but now that we have a new design we think it is time to bring it back to life.

One of our visitors let us know that the gender selection stopped working since we put up the new site design. We’ve located the bug and fixed it.

Migrated old posts

July 29th, 2009

I’ve migrated the old posts from the original Fake Name Generator blog to this blog. There are a few years in between the new posts and old posts, so don’t let that confuse you.

New Design Launched

July 27th, 2009

We’ve launched our new design!

This new layout will allow us to launch new features that we’ve been holding back, such as an API, this blog, new types of data, and more. To get us started, we’ve added the Italian “No. Carta d’Identità”. This is the Italian national ID number.

Have an idea? Let us know!

Lowered generated German house numbers

August 2nd, 2006

Due to a (negative) comment, German house numbers are now generated between the range of 1 and 100. Although my research on the internet shows that German street numbers are regularly up to 1000, apparantly streets in smaller cities have lower numbers. Hopefully this will make addresses for more cities appear more authentic.

Minor updates

July 22nd, 2006

Changed the PayPal “Buy Now” buttons to shopping cart buttons. This will allow people to purchase more than one group of names at a time.

This website is barely making enough to cover hosting costs, so I added a small advertisement for GoToMeeting. They pay me $30 every time someone signs up for a free trial. In addition, if you end up not wanting the product, canceling is super easy and can be done completely online without having to answer a questionnaire or talk to a customer service rep. Please try out their service to help support this website!

And last, fixed a typo with the Danish language.

Hungarian phone numbers

July 21st, 2006

Added Hungarian phone numbers. I couldn’t find area codes for a few cities, and so I assigned them mobile telephone numbers. The rest should be the correct area code for that city.

Also fixed another bug with the name set bar. Should be 100% working now.

Italy phone numbers and name set bar bug fix

July 21st, 2006

Added mobile phone numbers for Italy.

Fixed a bug that would sometimes display incorrect applicable name sets for saved identities.

Even more changes

July 21st, 2006

Added Finnish mobile phone numbers. It seems most Finnish people use mobile instead of land lines anyway (and it is a LOT easier to implement).

Changed the option drop-down boxes to use GET instead of POST. Basically this means that if you click “Go” to change an option (only applicable if you have JavaScript disabled), then if you hit Refresh you won’t get an annoying “You are going to resubmit form information” warning from your browser. It also makes the code a lot cleaner.

In addition, we cleaned out a few minor bugs that crept into the drop-down boxes (such as gender selection not always “sticking” properly).

Bug fixes and UK phone numbers

July 21st, 2006

Added support for UK telephone numbers. Generated numbers fall under the personal/mobile class.

In addition, the following bugs have been fixed:

  • Telephone numbers not being saved properly for some countries
  • Some accented characters were not showing properly for Finland
  • Sweden zip codes were not being saved properly
  • UK zip codes were not being saved properly

More updates and bug fixes

July 20th, 2006

We changed the gender selection to a drop-down box to make it more consistent with the other option selectors.

We removed the localization on the birthdates. It looked a little funny and didn’t make much sense with non-English countries.

We were alerted to a bug that would show a random age for saved identities instead of the correct age. This should be fixed now.

Added telephone support for Cyprus (English) and Cyprus (Greek).
